Conrail’s eastbound “Quincy Turn” eases past the former-LS&MS depot at Coldwater, Michigan on 18 May 1983. The train originated at Sturgis, and is headed east over the “Old Road” to the interchange with the Hillsdale County Railroad (HCRC) at Quincy, servicing industries along the way.

Caboose CR 18455 (N-11 class) was by Penn Central in 1969–70 at their Despatch Shops in East Rochester, NY. It was based in Sturgis for several years.

Also visible in the train are three orange HCRC boxcars, together with a TOFC car bound for the piggyback ramp at Hillsdale.

Today the depot at Coldwater still exists, and is the boarding point for excursions operated by the Little River Railroad. The track here and eastward in the direction of Hillsdale is still in service and operated by the Indiana Northeastern Railroad. The section of the “Old Road” west from Coldwater to Sturgis was abandoned in 2012 and removed.
