On the morning of 03 November 1987, the Southern Michigan Railroad’s (SMRS) Plymouth switcher #57 is warming up in front of the group’s headquarters/museum building in Clinton, Michigan.
Lettered for the long-defunct Ohio & Morenci Railroad, #57 was SMR’s only operational locomotive at this time, and was used in summer excursion service on passenger trains to Tecumseh, along with two cabooses.
On this date there are no scheduled operations, but the crew is taking the train out to cut brush or do other work along the line. Despite it being November, it’s a good day for it. Archives show that the high temperature reached this day was 75°F!
