It is late afternoon in the Jackson, Michigan Conrail yard on 08 April 1989. Conrail U23Bs #2737 and 2701 await their next turn of duty in front of the yard office. Over in the yard, a double-door boxcar still in New York Central System colors reminds us of the past, some 21 years after the NYC disappeared with the Penn Central merger.

Conrail #2737 was built for the Penn Central in September 1972. Although its retirement date is unknown, Conrail retired its remaining U23Bs by 1991.

Conrail #2701 was built for the PC in August 1972. It was retired in April 1991 and scrapped.
