Looking like a scene from the 1960s, this photograph was taken at Lenawee Junction, Michigan on the Lenawee County Railroad on 03 November 1986.

The LCRC is switching equipment of the Southern Michigan Railroad following a weekend display in Blissfield to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Erie & Kalazmazoo Railroad, Michigan’s first railroad. Once in order, the equipment will then be shoved up the east leg of the wye and onto SMR trackage, where the train will be moved by the Alco to the SMRS storage site near Demlow Road.

“New York Central” #8203 is an Alco RS-2, built for the Green Bay & Western Railroad as their #303. SMRS members repainted the unit in the previous weeks especially for the Blissfield display. The passenger car is an ex-Lackwanna Railroad MU trailer car, also painted and lettered for the NYC.

This post is part of an ongoing series highlighting the “golden age” of the Southern Michigan Railroad Society in the 1980s. Too see more posts from this series, click on the SMRS tag at the bottom of this post.
