Conrail 5903 at Bidwell Street in Tecumseh, MI on March 27, 1982.

Evidence of recent snowfall abounds as Conrail GP-7 #5903 approaches the Bidwell Street crossing, marking its arrival in Tecumseh, Michigan on March 27, 1982. The train is coming from Clinton on Conrail’s Clinton Secondary Track, and is bound for Toledo, Ohio.

The train crews would turn on the locomotive’s bell at about this point, and leave it ringing as the train passed through the town center with its many railroad crossings, announcing the presence of Conrail’s little train to anyone within earshot.

The building on the left was once housed the Tecumseh Sash & Door Company, a railroad customer with its own siding.

This is the last winter for Conrail in Tecumseh. Service on the line will cease within days, but on this day Conrail continues its work, as the railroad has in Tecumseh for well more than a century.
