Two cast crossbucks stand guard as Conrail #7911 leads a southbound unit grain train down the ex-PRR Carrothers Branch in the winter of 1982. The train was captured at the North Pemberville Road crossing, between Walbridge and Woodville, OH.
By this time Conrail had reduced service on this line, and the second main track was out of service. By 1984 it would cease to be a through route. The track from Toledo to Woodville would remain under Conrail ownership until the Conrail breakup, when it became part of CSXT.
Conrail 7911 was a GP38 built in 1971 for the Penn Central. It would later pass to the Norfolk Southern as #5638, upgraded to GP38-2 standards. It was photographed in service as late as 2021.
