A Conrail manifest freight train rolls west under the DT&I overpass at Delta, Ohio on 23 June 1983. The train is passing two old interurban cars, which at the time were kept on a section of former-Toledo & Indiana Railroad right-of-way and owned by a local resident.
Delta was a rural interchange point between Conrail, the DT&I and Norfolk & Western. This would all change by the 1990s as the N&W line was abandoned, the DT&I acquired by the Grand Trunk Western, and even Conrail main line would become Norfolk Southern property before the end of the decade. The rural nature of this are would also change with the construction of the NorthStar steel plant just west of this crossing (which is now closed).
Conrail SD40-2 #6389 was built for the road in August 1977. It became NS #3347 and was still in service in 2024.
Caboose #21653 is an N7 car built by the New York Central Despatch Shops in East Rochester, NY. It’s fate is unknown.
