There was already snow on the ground when Edward Hodges photographed the Lenawee County Railroad’s RS-1 #3 “Howard D. White” passing Palmyra, Michigan on 13 November 1984.
Palmyra was the site of a station on the New York Central’s “Old Road”, laying between Blissfield and Lenawee Junction. Located just east of the village of Palmyra, the station building was long gone by this time, but a siding and loading dock remained.
The Alco originally served the Washington Terminal Railroad as their #43. The unit was purchased by the LCRC in 1982, and put into service in the autumn of that year. It would survive until the closure of the LCRC in September 1990, and then be stored at Blissfield before being scrapped on site.
The line was eventually purchased by the Adrian & Blissfield Railroad, which operates it to this day.
