I lived in St. Louis from 1994 until 1999. Close to my first apartment in the Soulard neighborhood was the Manufacturers Railway Company (MRS), which was wholly owned by the Anheuser-Busch brewery. The MRS primarily switched the A-B brewery, but also had an interesting section of street running along 2nd Street, serving other industries as well.
In the afternoon you could often find an MRS switcher working industries along the line. In the above photo, one day in the mid 90s (date unknown, as this was a color print), I caught MRS 257 doing some work at the intersection of 2nd Street and Barton St. The 257 was originally built in March 1970 by EMD for the Illinois Terminal Railroad, and later came to the MRS via the N&W.
In 2011, A-B announced the closure of the MRS. In October of that year Foster Townsend Rail Logistics took over the operations of the former-MRS, but research indicates that the 2nd Street line has been used since about 2010.
