On a gray day 44 years ago—11 December 1980—Edward Hodges photographed the Norfolk & Western Railway’s F-52D local passing through Raisin Center, Michigan, the crossing with Conrail’s Clinton Secondary Track.
The F-52D was a local train that worked the former-Wabash main line as far west as Adrian, MI, where it delivered cars for the Adrian local (F-22A). Here it is returning eastbound, running “wrong main” through Raisin Center.
Locomotive NW 1354 is an EMD GP40 built in 1966. Behind a healthy consist, caboose NW 555031 brings up the rear. These classic cars were built for the N&W by the International Car Company, Kenton, Ohio.
There are still two tracks at this location today, although a few hundred yards to the east the line now narrows to a single track.
