Conrail SD50 #6724 is on the point of a westbound merchandise train as it sweeps around the curve at Berea, Ohio heading for Toledo on 12 February 1984. The operator at Berea Tower, visible behind the signals, will be keeping a close eye on the train.
The SD50 is almost new at the time, having been delivered three months earlier in December 1983. After Conrail was broken up, #6724 became Norfolk Southern #5415. In November 2012 it was rebuilt as an SD40E and renumbered to #6348. The unit was photographed in service in 2020, and it remains on the roster as of the date of this article.
